China’s State Council announced on Friday that it had approved the construction of four nuclear power projects comprising eight new nuclear generating units, according to state media.
Total investment in the projects is estimated at more than 170 billion yuan ($25.18 billion), according to government-backed media outlet the Paper.

The newly approved projects include two units each in Zhejiang, Guangdong, Liaoning and Shandong provinces, according to the Paper.
China approved the construction of 10 new nuclear generating units, with total investment estimated at 200 billion yuan, in 2025.
Total installed nuclear power capacity reached a world-leading 125 gigawatts as of April 2026, with 60 nuclear units in commercial operation and 36 under construction, according to an industry report published in April.
