Energoatom, Westinghouse discuss construction of new nuclear power units in Ukraine

Ukraine’s National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom and U.S.-based Westinghouse have discussed bilateral cooperation, including the preparation of regulatory documentation for the construction of new nuclear power units using AP1000 technology in Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, the press service of the Ukrainian company said this in a statement posted to messaging app Telegram.

According to the statement, Energoatom President Petro Kotin held a virtual meeting with Elias Gedeon and David Durham, Senior Vice Presidents at Westinghouse Electric Company.

The parties discussed urgent issues of bilateral cooperation, including the preparation of documentation for the construction of new nuclear power units using AP1000 technology in Ukraine and practical steps to establish a Westinghouse engineering and technical center in Ukraine, the statement said.

On June 2, Energoatom and Westinghouse signed three agreements on increasing the number of nuclear power units to be built using AP1000 technology in Ukraine from five to nine, establishing a Westinghouse Engineering Center in Ukraine and supplying American nuclear fuel for all Ukrainian NPPs.
