Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority says there have been no reports of abnormalities at two nuclear power plants along the Sea of Japan coast following an earthquake on Monday morning.
An intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to seven was recorded at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture.
The tremor also registered an intensity of 3 at the Shika nuclear power plant in Ishikawa Prefecture.
The authority says radiation levels remain unchanged at the facilities.
All reactors at the two plants remain offline for a long period.
