Unit 3 of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant in China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the first Hualong One nuclear unit serving western China, went into operation on Saturday, 168 hours after trial operation, said its operator China General Nuclear Power Corp.
Hualong One is China’s third-generation nuclear power technology with full intellectual property rights.
With the operation of the unit, the company currently has 27 units under operation nationwide with a total installed capacity exceeding 30.56 million kilowatts.
The project will be of great significance to promote economic and social development and energy green transformation in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, said the company.
Fangchenggang nuclear power plant consists of six nuclear power units, each with a capacity of more than one million kilowatts. The first phase, consisting of two units, was put into operation in 2016 and has generated more than 100 billion kilowatt hours of green power, said CGN.
The second phase of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant also consists of two nuclear power units. Each unit is expected to generate over 10 billion kilowatt hours of green power each year.
After the four units are put into operation, annual power generation capacity is expected to cross 34.5 billion kilowatt hours and meet the power demand of 5.87 million residents, said the company.
