Darlington Refurbishment performance update Q4 2021

Darlington refurbishment project passes midway point

In 2016, after years of detailed planning and preparation, OPG’s team of project partners, industry experts, energy professionals, and skilled tradespeople successfully shut down the first of four Darlington reactors scheduled for refurbishment over the subsequent 10 years.

Today, the Darlington refurbishment project continues to track for completion by the end of 2026. This is due to the dedicated support of OPG’s skilled workforce, Ontario’s robust nuclear supply chain and other project partners, suppliers and contractors.

Recently, the project passed the midway point of the 10-year execution of this $12.8 billion project when Unit 1 was taken off the grid to begin its scheduled refurbishment. This will enable production of clean, safe, low cost and emission free electricity from Darlington for an additional 30-plus years.
