The Union Minister of State (MoS) for Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh, stated in Parliament yesterday that a contract was signed with JSC NAC Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan on 8 July 2015 for procurement of 5,000 MT of Uranium Ore Concentrate (UOC) spread over a period of 5 years during 2015 to 2019 at an indicative total cost of Rs. 3,156 crore, with an option to procure additional quantity of 500 MT of UOC per year for four years from 2016 to 2019, on mutually acceptable terms.
As per the contract with JSC NAC Kazatomprom, the balance quantity of 1,500 MT is scheduled to reach India in December 2019.
Singh also stated that a contract was signed in 2015 with Cameco Inc., Canada, for 3,000 MT of uranium ore concentrate. 1,000 MT stands delivered, while the balance quantity of 1,000 MT ‘U’ is scheduled to be received in December 2019, and 1,000 MT ‘U’ to be received in 2020.

Singh had revealed earlier that a contract has been signed for Uzbekistan to supply 1,100 tons of uranium ore concentrate to India beginning in 2022.
