Steam generators of Belarusian nuclear power plant’s second unit now in place

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Steam generators have been installed as part of the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the Information and Public Relations Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

Four steam generators intended for the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant have been installed into their designated positions inside the reactor building.

Each 330 tonne steam generator was lifted onto the ramp extension and moved on rails via the equipment airlock into the reactor building. Then the polar crane put the steam generators into their designated positions.

The steam generators are part of the core process equipment in the flow circuit of a reactor unit. The steam generators are designed to transfer heat from the nuclear reactor core to the secondary circuit where the heat-transfer surface generates steam to feed the turbine and generate electricity.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
