Uzbekistan has signed contracts on uranium supply to Japan for over $1 billion, Kun.uz reports.
The contracts were signed during the visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan in December 2019.
The biggest deal for $636.4 million was reached with Itochu. The deal for $510 million was signed with Marubeni. The Navoi mining factory will supply uranium from 2023 to 2030.
Uzbekistan has signed a 7-year contract on uranium supply to the U.S. for $300 million in 2017. In 2019, Uzbekistan signed a contract on export of uranium with India in 2019.
Uzbekistan holds the 7th place in the world in uranium production.
Thet Namangan mining factory is the only operator in Uzbekistan producing and exporting uranium.
